Banda neškodných podfukářů se vesele živí malými podvůdky na ctihodných spoluobčanech. Jednoho dne se však rozhodnou pro megapodfuk. Pro jeho uskutečnění potřebují mozek celé akce, a tím má být Charleston (Bud Spencer). Ten souhlasí a celý ten šílený podnik nazve dvojitým saltem mortale. Jde o to, vypálit rybník americkému mafiánovi (James Coco), který se snaží potopit svůj ztrátový parník (takové malé plovoucí Las Vegas), na který má uzavřenou vysokou pojistku. To se mu ale nedaří, a proto se svým právníkem vymyslí podfuk na potenciálního kupce, který by jim měl stoprocentně vyjít! To ale netuší, že tím šťastným zákazníkem je sám Charleston, který své dvojité salto mortale hodlá zvládnout s naprostou elegancí. Aby toho nebylo málo, tak se do všeho ještě zaplete okradený policejní inspektor Watkins (Herbert Lom), kterému banda podfukářů, v čele s Charlestonem, odcizila obraz Gauguina.
